Walking, Running, Stumbling, towards Christ

I have really been getting into the book of 1John the past few days. The theme has been loving your brother and pouring out your life for someone else. I heard this message on it from Zac Poonen and he brought out a really cool comparision in scripture. He brought out the similiarities in  John 3:16 and 1John 3:16. After hearing this I thought of Gal 2:20. take a look at the pattern of giving in these 3 scriptures (God Gave, Jesus Gave, We Give).

GOD giving allJoh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Jesus giving allGal 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. Man giving all

1Jn 3:16 Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

Looking into these scriptures makes me automatically think of the great Love and sacrifice that has been made for me. Now to be a living example of the Love that drove Christ to the cross-

1Jn 2:6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

I had some thoughts on the lady with the Alabaster box last week and wanted to journal them. There has been a lot of buzz on creeping worldliness lately, the internal and the external. Pharisee’s where all about the external this lady with the alabastar box was all about the internal. We need to find ourselves poured out at the feet of Jesus then time goes by and we can find ourselves in the Pharisee’s shoes. Our thoughts within get off center. We start focusing on certain things and forget about sacrificial love. Here are some thoughts I had on this part of Luke Chapter 7 –

Luk 7:36  And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee’s house, and sat down to meat.

Luk 7:37  And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, She brought all that she had and all that was in her and laid it at the feet of Jesus!!

Luk 7:38  And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.

It is interesting that she is standing behind Jesus and not in front of Jesus. She took all the external dirt on Jesus’ feet and wiped it way with her tears and dried them. Her tears come from a internal feeling of brokenness and the manifestation on the outside are her tears. If we stay in this state “poured out” then someday we will be in front of Jesus casting our Crown at his feet!

Luk 7:39  Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner. The key here is “he spake within himself” his thoughts, his internal state was corrupt everything was right on the outside, tithes, etc… But on the inside he was corrupt.

Luk 7:40  And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on.

Luk 7:41  There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty.

Luk 7:42  And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most?

Luk 7:43  Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged. This is huge! This man although black as sin on the inside can Judge a situation correctly? How many times do I judge a situation correctly but with the wrong spirit?

Luk 7:44  And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head. Luk 7:45  Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet. Luk 7:46  My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment. Luk 7:47  Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.

Here we have a lady that yielded it all and we have a Pharisee who thought he knew it all about religion. We as followers of Christ find ourselves in both of these positions. I am the woman that pours it all out and some time goes by and I forget and become a Pharisee. Help us Lord find the poured out road and walk  in humbleness, gratitude, and Love, MUCH LOVE -

Luk 7:48  And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven.

Luk 7:49  And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgiveth sins also?

Luk 7:50  And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.

The Voice of the Lord

AV

In the same way as you judge others, you will be judged (Matthew 7:2).

The word “perception” has been very helpful to me over the last few years. I have learned to preface very strong opinions that I hold, or occasions of correcting my co-workers, with the words, “I perceive.” Before I learned the word “perception,” it was easy for people to think of me as a “bull in a china shop.” My reputation as an opinionated and harsh person preceded me wherever I went. Then I learned the words, “It is my perception that …” Such wording softens the strong opinions or feelings I hold and gives opportunity for the other side to evaluate the matter without having their feelings hurt.

The prophet Jeremiah said, “The heart is more deceitful than anything else” (Jeremiah 17:9). When it comes to making judgments concerning people, we must be very careful. We cannot see into another person’s heart. Only God can do that. The best that we can do is have a perception. Even when we are forced to make an evaluation, we ought to check twice and even three times with honorable witnesses, and always judge according to the measure of God’s grace toward us.

Let us devote time and effort to expressing our perceptions with love and understanding toward our brothers.

…be careful in the way that I communicate my perceptions to others.

In reading James this morn. this stood out to me:

Jas 4:4 You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.

Jas 4:5 Or do you suppose it is to no purpose that the Scripture says, “He yearns jealously over the spirit that he has made to dwell in us”?

Jas 4:6 But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.

Lord I want to flee from me today and get in tune with you!

Jas 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

SUBMIT’, v.i. To surrender; to yield one’s person to the power of another; to give up resistance. The enemy submitted.

To give up resistance…….

Malachi 3:2 – But who may abide the day of his coming? And who shall stand when he appeareth? For he is

like a refiner’s fire, and like fullers’ soap:

Malachi 3:3 - And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness.

Ok today was rough. Started the day of with some good prayer. Then I was doing some secret fasting (opps not a secret anymore) and around 2pm I couldnt take it anymore and broke the fast because Dell brouht in Marble Slab Creamery Ice Cream. After that I was losing my patience with everyone on the phone it was terrible. I had such a bad attitude I hate bad attitudes an crankiness. The highlight of my day was talking to my wife. Also some guy from work prayed a sweet prayer for me and I felt the peace of the Lord come over me. Isnt it awesome how prayer can do that.

Psa 27:4 One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in his temple.

Psa 27:5 For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.

Last nite there was a biblw study @ Casablanca I was not feeling motivated at all. It was a good study Joe B. gave some good thoughts along with James. Scriptures that where mentioned where: 2Tim3:6, Roman 1:21-23, Psalm 115:1-5, 1kins12:28. Also yesterday I was impressed with reachin out to the community and how to do it, let us all pray on how to impact the community with the power and love of Christ. Isiah 60 has been on my mind today along with 1John4. This morning went to a devotion there was a new guy there and it was a lil bit uncomfortable. We pray at this devo and there was a mind block or something on me it wasnt flowing. We are going on a church run and I am excited about that. This morning me and Sarah where arguing about stupid stuff, it seems when we are getting ready to go somewhere we nit pick each other. We recognized it and went together to run some errands and thru the drive we forgot about what we bickering over. Here are some scriptures i was impressed with last nite and this morning.

1Jo 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.

1Jo 4:8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

1Jo 4:9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

1Jo 4:10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

1Jo 4:11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.

1Jo 4:12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.

Isa 60:14 The sons also of them that afflicted thee shall come bending unto thee; and all they that despised thee shall bow themselves down at the soles of thy feet; and they shall call thee, The city of the LORD, The Zion of the Holy One of Israel.

Isa 60:15 Whereas thou hast been forsaken and hated, so that no man went through thee, I will make thee an eternal excellency, a joy of many generations.

Isa 60:16 Thou shalt also suck the milk of the Gentiles, and shalt suck the breast of kings: and thou shalt know that I the LORD am thy Savior and thy Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob.

Don’t think it common don’t think it strange there is nothing that God cant change. Last night at service I was reminded of the limitless possibilities in Christ! Although I was melancholy thru the worship, my mind was wandering a lot during worship and I couldn’t get into it. I kept thinking about the stupidest stuff. The teaching and testimonies nailed it (get the DVD). I woke up @ 6:30am and prayed in bed had a good short prayer. On the way to pick up Paul I was listening to a song by Neal and I cried and worshipped the whole way to his house. As the song was playing I retraced the steps of my life and wept at the LIFE CHANGING POWER OF GOD AND HIS PEOPLE. Look back at what the Lord has done in your life and your problems will grow strangely dim. What cant God change? What are you afraid of? What is afflicting you? Don’t think it common don’t think it strange there is nothing, there is nothing that God cant change.

Verse of the day to meditate on Mat 10:8  freely ye have received, freely give.

This is a poem that was related to actually dieing a martyr’s death. I am relating to my attitude I need to say today  Afraid? Of what?

Afraid? Of what?
To feel the spirit’s glad release?
To pass from pain to perfect peace?
The strife and strain of life to cease?
Afraid?—of that?

Afraid? Of what?
Afraid to see the Saviour’s face?
To hear His welcome, and to trace
The glory gleam from wounds of grace?
Afraid?—of that?

Afraid? Of what?
A flash—a crash—a pierced heart;
Darkness—light—O heaven’s art!
A wound of his counterpart!
Afraid? Of that?

Afraid? Of what?
To do by death what life could not—
Baptize with blood a stony plot,
Till souls shall blossom from the spot?
Afraid? Of that?
